2009 Annual Show Report

On September 12th we had another successful and enjoyable annual show at St. Andrew's School. We had 52 exhibitors, a few less than last year but more than for either of the previous two years. Between them they made a total of 296 entries. We would have liked more support for the traditional gardening classes, flowers and vegetables but were very pleased with the cookery and photography sections.

The winners were:
Mrs. J. Williams: the RHS Banksian Medal for most points in the flowers and vegetable sections, excluding winners in the previous two years.

Section A, fruit and vegetables: F. Partridge, the Bert Partridge Cup for most points, 6 first, 3 third prizes; Mrs S. Daborn, 5 firsts, 1 second; Mrs J. Williams, the Warren Cup for most points, 3 firsts, 4 seconds; T. Barber, 2 firsts, 1 second; Mrs S. Mackinnon, 2 firsts; Angharad Nichols, 1 first, 1 second; Tamar Leppard, 1 first; Charlie Jordan, 2 seconds, 1 third; Mrs A. Burrows, 1 second; Mrs J. Redmond, 1 second. Judge: Miss S. Sawkins.

Section B, flowers and pot plants: Mrs. V. Hyland, the Augustine Courtauld Cup for best exhibit, the Perpetual Rose Bowl for most points and 2 firsts, 1 second; Mrs S. Daborn, the Jack Richardson Salver for best Rose, 1 first, 1 second; Mrs. R. Brown, 1 first, two thirds; Mrs. R. Chamberlain, 1 second; Mrs. J. Williams, 1 second. Judge: Miss S. Sawkins.
